LED lights

LED is a semiconductor source of light that stands for Light Emitting
Diode. These are the directional lights that can be used for focusing.
It was first invented in the year 1907 for light emitting solid and
first introduced in the year 1962 for a practical electronic
component.

LED comes in various colors like blue, green, red, yellow, white etc.,
and the color of LED is determined by various crystals and different
forms of Gallium. The colors are usually measured in nanometers that
predicts, wavelength of the light. It has various shapes and sizes
that ranges from 3MM to 5MM.

Miniature LEDs are the most common indicator lights that can be seen
in two wheelers, calculators and in cell phones. It uses low current
and gives ultra high output. It comes in sizes from 2MM to 8MM
depending on the device.

High Power LEDs are the most powerful LED that produces a stronger
light than any other LED. Now a days, traditional  florescent and
incandescent lights are being replaced by these high power LEDs. It
uses high current, thus having high overheating. This overheating can
be avoided by mounting a heat absorbent material for dissipation.
Flash light in an incandescent bulb is often replaced by a High Power
LED light.

Infrared LED or IR LED are used to transfer broadband data and used as
an detector. These LEDs are extremely simple and anyone can use this.
It has lower forward voltage and current used for these LEDs are as
low as 50 milliamps.

Superflux LEDs are mostly found in large panels that are designed for
maximum light emission. Normally, these types of leds contains two
positive leads  and two negative leads. Example for Superflux led is
bill board advertising.

Flashing LEDs are used for attention seeking of the people that emits
single color of light without using any external indicators. They are
more or less similar to standard LEDs that has a special multi
vibrated circuit that causes the flash leds to blink in typical period
of time. If sophisticated devices are used, flashing leds can produce
multiple colors.

Bi-Color Leds are the leds that produces bi-colors. It consists of two
dies which are anti parallel to each other that are connected to same
two leads. The technology behind this bi color is, current flow in one
direction gives a color and current flow in other direction gives
another color. Third color can also be produced by alternating the two
colors with sufficient frequency.

Tri-color or RGB leds are used to produce three colors such as red,
green and blue. These three colors are produced by having RGB
emitters. It has a four wire connections, that has a positive lead,
negative lead and any common lead such as cathode or anode.

Ultra-violet leds are the most common leds available in the market now
a days. They are very cheap and available at wavelengths around 370 –
395 nanometers. They are divided in to three bands UV-A, UV-B and
UV-C. UV-A bands are innocuous, while UV-B bands causes sun burns for
people and UV-C, the most powerful band that kills things. These B and
C bands are filtered out bu our ozone layer.

White LEDs were developed by an existence of blue leds and other high
efficiency leds. These leds are four times more efficient than the
natural incandescent lights.

Phosporous based LEDs are the types of leds by coating phosporous of
different colors on a led light. These types of leds are lower
efficient than the normal ones.
