Training a driving pony to understand and accept reins?
We have inherited a pony that has been trained to drive and is wonderful with kids, she has no problem having a child “ride” her while being led around (harness and lead rope). We would like to be able to put a saddle and bridle on her and let the kids ride her with out one of us needing to lead her around. Any advice?
put the bridle and saddle on an put an experienced child on her. if the pony reacts badly, then keep doing it. eventually she’ll learn to let kids ride her. don’t put a child’s life at risk though. if she reacts like bucking and rearing then ask a trainer. good luck!
